…in a beautiful, natural setting surrounded by tropical vegetation and right by a river!

At the Sustainability Demonstration Center, we aim to demonstrate different environmentally-friendly ways of reducing the footprints we leave behind each day by leading Environmental Protection, Social and Economic Justice, Education and Animal Welfare programs.

The Center is a great place for volunteers to get hands-on experience in sustainability projects and make a difference in a rural Costa Rican community.

We have openings all year around !

Short-term volunteering (anywhere from a few hours to 3 months):

While we prefer having long-term volunteers, we do appreciate any help people are willing to give! We are currently renovating the Center, planting vegetables and medicinal plants, have a tree nursery, and work on all sorts of community-development projects so we usually need help for all kind of small things. Whether you have artistic, gardening, construction or other skills, we can probably find something that you enjoy doing and that helps us at the same time.

-Food Security and Development to help develop locally-produced food products, and helping the local women develop business strategies for their local market, helping at our experimental farm to come up with high nutritional value crops and ways to grow them which do not require irrigation, teaching various ways to preserve foodstuffs and transform raw materials into value-added products

-Education- English as a Second Language classes for the locals, creating materials to promote community based eco-tourism, learning and then teaching Bach Flower Therapy, teaching yoga and or meditation, etc.

-Animal welfare- coordinating the spay and neuter clinics for dogs and cats, education regarding compassionate care of animals, helping develop humane ways of animal husbandry, helping care for our farm animals and rescued dogs and cats

-Participating in the development of a regional water distribution and protection plan

-Many more depending on your interest!
